Day One The Choice is yours!

Monday July 4th -

The choice to do or not do - is up to you and you alone.  I have been making so many excuses and where I am starting  at now has nothing to do with anyone.  I alone have chose -  " You are the way you are because that is the way that you have chosen to be"  So true.... So this am I woke up at 5:30 am and chose to give it my all.

I showed up for hiking and got assigned to Van 5 for my assessment hike.  I talked to the Hike leader yesterday and let her know what my abilities were and hoped to be placed right - SO DID NOT HAPPEN.  I get into the van and I was pretty sure that it wasn't a good fit.  We started our hike, we had 3 guides - so 1 at the front, 1 with the middle group and 1 at the end.  I wanted to make sure that I would get with a faster group so followed right behind the front guide and I ended up with a private hike. It was just the 2 of us as the rest of the group was much slower.  We ended up doing a bunch of extras and exploring so it turned out really well.  8 km round trip  1 hr : 47 min hiking time

Teetor Totter Rock - top of the mountain and you can rock it back and forth - a bit creepy!

Do you see the elephant?

So tomorrow - it's to the FAST group.... ugh.  Not sure about that. I have been so afraid to hold anyone back that I have not gone out with the local hiking group and decline invitations from friends and other groups.  But the open possibility in me says " GO FOR IT, YOU CAN DO IT"  So it'll be much tougher tomorrow and that is ok - I am STRONG and DETERMINED  and I CAN DO IT

Here is today's menu and food picture - so I did add 1 small Banana and 2 small salads with no dressing with very low calorie toppings - so this would be added to the total.

2 Dark Chocolate Dipped Strawberries ( at them so slow and enjoyed them)

I skipped the first session I was supposed to go to.  Because I have been there before, I did not have to go ( probably should have but want the calorie burn)  So my group then had FitBall or Open Gym - so I chose to use one of the bikes and went on a 50 min bike ride on a Cruiser with big fat bumpy tires.  I really wish I would have brought my road bike - I miss Scotty!  Got a great workout though.  Very humbling, it felt like I had never biked before, my legs were like spaghetti and every peddle was tough and it was 35 degrees already.

BIKING - 12.8 km  47 min
STRETCH - 35 min Hated it!  I felt great going in and then during class all my muscle / hip issues flared up.  I so need to start YOGA when I get home.  Need to learn to slow down and get more stretching!
EXTRA STATIONARY BIKE - 20 min   Stretching good out early and I did not want to just sit around, so I figured a 20 min stationary bike ride would be better than nothing - burned an extra 200 calories
After lunch was Intro to WEight Training, I have done this already, so the alternative was a cooking demo.  I chose to do water workout and relax in the pool a bit
WATER WORKOUT - 25 min of water jogging
COURT CHALLENGE - 41 min  Tough class - wasn't sure what it would be - it was a bunch of stations to do -  sandbag throw / stair run, skipping, burpees, step ups, boxing, spin bike, battle ropes / agility ladder.  First time through was 1.5 min / station and second time around was 1 minute and then final was 5 stations your choice for 1 minute each.  It was a great class- instructor came up and told me that I did really well.  I guess it's the stigma - I am very overweight and don't look like I should be working out like that and as hard.  I LOVED  the ropes!  Definitely need to add some to class and to home - Carson and Ian would love them!
CIRCUIT TRAINING - Alternating Cardio and Weight Machines.  45 minutes - enjoyed the weights, definitely need to do more - I tend to gravitate towards the cardio but research shows that muscle mass is the KEY to keep metabolism as we age!
WATER AEROBICS - 50 minutes- very easy class - alternative  was stretching again and it was nice to relax in the pool after it was done before supper.

So all in all a GREAT DAY. I'm feeling good emotionally and physically.  I ended up with a headache after the hike. Slugged through it and still have it a bit.  Probably low on electrolytes so will double up tomorrow.  Also detoxing from diet coke and sugar maybe as well the cause?

Tomorrow is a clean slate! Make it a great day! You are in control - you make the choices that will ultimately affect what comes next.  I am both excited and scared about the hike.  I'm ok being last, I will grow, I will change and I will have another awesome day.

Should have lost 1 lb of fat today.  My BMR - amount of calories I need in a coma is 1836 - so I came out @ 550 calories under  just with the food defecit - that's an hour of bootcamp without doing it... yeah  and I got in 8 workouts for a total of 369 mintues or 6 hours and 15 minutes of working out and probably burned an extra 3200 calories today. So adding that to the food defecit - that is one lb of fat gone!  Much harder to get rid of it that to put it on.  Choose wisely.  Until tomorrow.....
